Questions?

What is the Public Service Career Expo?

In 2015, CORE4 leaders (comprised of Johnson County, KS; Jackson County, MO; Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS; and Kansas City, MO) led an initiative to create a highly interactive and hands-on event for middle and high school students to gain exposure to the vast career opportunities in the public sector. Other municipalities joined in and contributed financially as well as through serving on the planning committee, providing volunteers, and providing equipment and demonstrations for booths. The event was extraordinarily successful, and it has been held bi-annually since its inception (2015, 2017, and 2019). The 2021 event will be the fourth expo, but the first one of a virtual format.

What public sector career areas are highlighted during the event?

We introduce students to various public sector jobs within ten main career areas, which are as follows:

Administration & Finance • Community Development • Corrections • Courts & Legal • Direct Services • Fire/EMS • Information Technology • Law Enforcement • Parks & Recreation • Public Works

Who is eligible to attend the virtual event?

Any middle school or high school in the KC Metro region (public school, private school, charter school, or homeschool) is eligible to register. All registrations should come from the actual "school" vs an individual student registering themselves.

Is there a cost to attend?

Thanks to the generous sponsorship support of local cities and counties, there is no cost for schools to register and attend this event.
